In the aerospace sector, filters are not mere accessories: cabin recirculated air, engine fuel, and hydraulic system lubricating oil must all meet strict specifications dictated by the aircraft designer and certification requirements, rather than by the machinery used to manufacture the filter. SPM has worked for years with manufacturers of cabin HEPA filters, oil filters, and fuel filters in this sector, always starting from the same premise: building the production line around the customer’s specifications, rather than forcing the customer to adapt to a standard machine configuration.

Two requests arise almost invariably during negotiations with aerospace filter manufacturers. The first is process traceability: SPM can document and record production parameters upon request—a feature particularly valuable when the customer needs to demonstrate product repeatability to their own clients. The second is project confidentiality: when a manufacturer develops a filter based on OEM specifications, the geometries and materials involved often constitute sensitive information. SPM handles these projects through confidentiality agreements and custom solutions that are not included in the public product catalog.

It is worth clarifying the distinction between machine certification and filter certification: the relevant aerospace standards—such as AS9100, DO-160, MIL-STD, and Airbus/Boeing specifications—apply to the filter manufacturer and the finished filter, not the machine builder. SPM delivers lines configured to operate within the required technical parameters; qualifying the final product remains the customer’s responsibility, just as it is in any other sector.

The range of machinery used in this sector largely overlaps with that used for high-efficiency filters: mini-pleat lines for cabin HEPA filters (with EN 1822 H13/H14 validation in an ISO 7 environment already available) and complete production lines for cylindrical oil and fuel filters featuring polyurethane casting. The same core technology also serves filters for aircraft, trains, and ships—two sectors where SPM already has active clients.
